Common questions

How do I play a round?

A structure appears with faint crates showing where the load will land. Tap any beam to see what it carries under a light test weight and how much it can take when pulled. When you have decided, tap Lock in. A four-step briefing explains the load and the forces, then Load it and watch lowers the crates and the first beam snaps. Called it: 100 points; close (your beam shares a joint with the one that went): 40.

How do I read the beam card?

The card gives ingredients, never the answer: the force in the beam under the test weight, its strength when pulled, and the rule that a squeezed beam buckles at 70 % of that strength. The real load is heavier than the test weight; the card says how many times. Compare the beams you looked at (they stay listed on the card) and reason it out.

What is the daily challenge?

One structure a day, the same for every player, with its own strengths. Your first call counts; you can play it again, but the score stays. Keep a streak by playing every day. It needs no internet: the day's structure is computed from the date.

Why does the same structure break in a different place?

Every round gives the beams new strengths, so the weak point moves. The drawing tells you where to look; the numbers tell you which one.

How do I zoom?

Pinch, or tap + and − at the top right; drag to look around; Show all brings the whole drawing back. Swipe the card down to see more of the drawing, and tap the handle to bring it back.

Can I pick a beam without the drawing?

Yes: the list button at the top right names every beam by its position (for example "horizontal, lower left"), and works with VoiceOver.

What is free and what is Snapline Unlock?

Free for good: the daily challenge on all sixty structures, the Roofs and frames set to practise on, and the share card. Snapline Unlock is one purchase that opens the other five sets (fifty structures), Engineer mode and your history. It is not a subscription.

What is Engineer mode?

Part of Snapline Unlock: no beam card at all, you read the drawing alone (thicker beams can take more; darker blue carries more), and every call is worth double. Turn it on in Settings.

I bought Snapline Unlock but the sets are still locked.

Open Settings and choose Restore purchase (also on the Unlock screen). Use the same Apple ID you bought with. If it still does not unlock, email us with the date of the purchase.

Does the purchase work on my other devices?

On your iPhone, iPad and Mac, yes: sign in with the same Apple ID and choose Restore purchase. Android is a separate store and is not released yet.

How do I share a call?

On the result card, tap the share button and choose a story (1080 × 1920) or a square picture. The picture is drawn on your device; nothing is uploaded by the app.

Do I need an account or the internet?

No account, ever. Everything is in the app and it works offline. Only Request a structure needs the internet, and buying or restoring Snapline Unlock goes through the App Store.

How do I request a structure?

Open Settings and choose Request a structure. Add your vote to one on the list, or name a new one: what it is, who it is for and, if you like, why. Please do not include personal details. You can send one request every 15 minutes.

Request a structure says it cannot load the list.

Check your connection and tap Try again. The rest of the app works without the internet.

Sound or haptics?

Both switch off in Settings. Every click, creak and snap is synthesized in the app; on the iPhone the sound respects the silent switch and mixes with whatever is playing.

Keys on the Mac

Space locks in your call and, in the briefing, loads the structure; R starts a new one; the arrow keys step through the briefing; ⌘, opens Settings; Esc closes a sheet.

Something looks wrong.

Please email us with the structure and a description, or a screenshot, and the version from the bottom of Settings.
